Kilmore Street was a high-pressure repair required after a cold-water feed burst within a ceiling cavity on the 4 th floor. The resulting water damage effected every floor below, with a total of 22 rooms damaged.
The relevant trade specialists and consultants were engaged straight away to ensure the repair process commenced and a detailed scope of work was compiled within days. This included assessing all passive fire systems, fire cells, plumbing and electrical systems, mechanical ventilation, and moisture levels in both the linings and areas of timber framing. The goal was to ensure that there was minimal disruption to the hotel operations who had only recently taken possession of the lower half of the building. Each floor had the effected areas hoarded off to isolate the work areas from the guests and the stripping out of all damaged elements of the building got underway.
The repair of all specified systems and elements was completed within 10 weeks from the initial incident, while the hotel managed to remain operational for the duration of this reinstatement.
In the small Waitaki District settlement of Lake Ohau, during the early hours of one October morning in 2020, strong winds fanned one of the most severe wildfires in New Zealand history. Residents were forced to flee their properties as a massive fire burned through conservation land and farms. As a result, most of the homes in the village were destroyed, and many lives were significantly affected.
We quickly mobilised our team, and we were on the ground the day after the catastrophe to respond and provide assistance to Suncorp customers in need. Within three days of the event, we completed assessments of damaged homes and reported on all Suncorp affected properties. In addition, our contractors completed urgent cleaning of smoke affected buildings and conducted asbestos surveys before demolition to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
We managed 16 fire and smoke damage claims ranging from total loss of homes and outbuildings to minor smoke damage and odour removal. While six homes were a total loss, we managed one rebuild, and five claims were cash rebuilds. We also completed eight managed repairs and two insured cash repairs.
